Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will no longer campaign from Amethi, but changed his seat to Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, the party announced on Friday. The congress has given a ticket to Kishori Lal Sharma to contest from Amethi against BJP’s Smriti Irani.
Meanwhile, the BJP, on Thursday, announced that Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh will fight the battle in Rae Bareli against Rahul Gandhi.
Both the Congress candidates will submit their nomination papers today, which is the deadline of nominations for the fifth phase. The fifth phase is scheduled for May 20.
Hailing from Punjab’s Ludhiana, Kishori Lal Sharma was first introduced to Amethi by Rajiv Gandhi probably in 1983. Since then, he has been actively managing the party’s activities and operations from Amethi and Rae Bareli for a long period. He also had a significant contribution in maintain the party’s presence in both constituencies.
In addition, Sharma has also been a trusted aide of Sonia Gandhi and has served as her representative during her tenure as the member of Parliament from Rae Bareli.
